Squash is one step closer to making its debut at the Olympics after the sport was put forward for inclusion at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
Squash joins baseball/softball, cricket, flag football and lacrosse on the list of new sports proposed for inclusion by the LA28 Organising Committee, who recognised them for their relevance, innovation and community appeal across the world.
Commenting on the news, England Squash CEO Mark Williams said:
“We are delighted that squash has been put forward for inclusion in the Olympic Games by LA28.
"If ratified, becoming an Olympic sport would be a monumental boost for everyone involved in the game, particularly for our talented young players who would have a new opportunity to showcase their skill and athleticism on the world’s greatest sporting stage.
"Squash would add something new and unique to the Games, particuarly given recent innovations which have revolutionised the playing and viewing experience. Squash has a huge global appeal and there is incredible diversity across the world game, which could be celebrated, and boosted further by Olympic recognition.”
The proposal will be reviewed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board for ratification at the IOC session in Mumbai on 16 October.
