Under 19 top seeds Alexander Broadbridge and Mariam Eissa lifted their fourth national title today following comprehensive victories at the MB Nottingham English Junior Championships 2025 finals (EJC).

Hampshire, Warwickshire and Yorkshire each celebrated two winners while there was one apiece for Avon, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Norfolk.

Broadbridge (Hampshire) sealed his fourth title following a high quality showdown against [5/8] Ronnie Hickling (Surrey). Despite a tight first game, Broadbridge, the England No.1 soon found his rhythm to close out in three: 13-11, 11-2, 11-6.

Broadbridge paid tribute to his opponent afterwards, admitting:

“I think we were both hanging on the edge of a thread by the end of that match from all of the long rallies.”

2024 Girls Under 19 runner-up Mariam Eissa went one better than last year to lift her fourth EJC title. The 15-year-old from Warwickshire produced a masterclass to overpower [2] Emily Coulcher-Porter (Buckinghamshire) in straight games: 11-6, 11-4, 11-4.

A jubilant Eissa exclaimed:

“I feel absolutely amazing. All the hard work that I put into every game, every session - I feel like it’s finally picking up.

“I owe Emily a big thanks for always giving me great finals. We’ve had so many battles and I’m sure we’ll continue having them.”

MB Nottingham English Junior Championships 2025 BU17 Winner Luke McBride

Boys' Under 17 3/4 seed Luke McBride (Surrey) followed up his epic semi-final victory against top seed Gabriel Chak (Surrey) earlier in the day to power past second seed Indie Flint (Surrey) in the final (11-3, 11-5, 11-3) and lift his maiden EJC title.

Meanwhile, in the Girls' Under 17s, Broadbridge’s sister Harriet (Hampshire) made it a family double after overcoming [2] Renata Colabella (Kent) in three: 11-0, 11-5, 11-4.

Matthew Hong Ki Leung (Gloucestershire) justified his seeding to capture the Boys' Under 15 title following a straight games triumph over [3/4] Jaanshere Khan (Surrey): 11-7, 11-7, 11-5. Former champion and Girls Under 15 top seed Ameerah Ismail (Warwickshire) saw off a spirited challenge from [2] Esther Chak (Surrey) emerging victorious in three: 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.

Boys’ Under 11 top seed James Swinden (Yorkshire) came through in five against Thomas Earwicker (Surrey), by way of compensation for his defeat to him in the Mixed Under 9 final two years earlier. Meanwhile Girls’ Under 11 2024 runner-up Ada Brown (Norfolk) went one better this year to capture the Girls Under 13 crown after seeing off Olivia Holbrook (Hampshire) in four: 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.
