Sam Todd lifts second US Open Junior title

Sam Todd
Yorkshireman Sam Todd clinched his second US Open Junior title after a convincing win over USA’s Thomas Rosini in the final of the 2016 Boys Under 15 event in Connecticut, USA.

The championships saw 889 juniors from 34 countries compete in 10 categories from the Under 19s to the Under 11s. Top seed Todd, who earlier this year won the prestigious British Junior Open Boys Under 13 title, was on superb form all week as he powered to the final dropping just one game in the run-up.

The 13-year-old commented, “I thought the final went well. I got a good start to create a 2-0 lead 11-5 11-5. I lost a bit of my focus in the third game giving him that 6-11. I then did well to close the match out 3-1 in the fourth 11-8.”

“It’s an honour to win a second US Open title. Travelling that distance and being the #1 seed helped me focus a lot more on winning the event”.

Todd now turns his attention to the 2017 British Junior Open (BJO). “I’m massively pumped up for the BJO because winning the tournament a year ago was one of my best achievements. I’ve been working hard all year with my coach Malcolm Willstrop towards the event."
