England Squash publishes Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan

England Squash has published its one-year Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) which outlines the organisation’s ambition to drive increased and diverse participation in the game for 2024-25.

Produced in consultation with the Inclusion Advisory Group together with staff members, and drawing on existing research and insight, the DIAP aligns with England Squash’s current Squash in a Changing World strategy, which runs until 2025.

Within the DIAP, there are four focus areas: Data and Insight, Leadership and Governance, Stakeholder Engagement and Training and Development.

Some of the key objectives for England Squash’s 2024-25 DIAP include:

  • To gain a clear understanding of the culture within the sport by listening to people’s experiences of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • To have a clear understanding of the perceptions of the sport from our target audiences who are not currently playing.
  • To establish a fixed method and approach to collecting and reporting on diversity data, providing a baseline on which future targets can be built.
  • To have laid the foundations on which to build our work on inclusion and diversity into our strategy beyond 2025.
  • To have an increasingly diverse workforce with a greater awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Commenting on the DIAP, England Squash’s Head of Partnerships and Communities Jo Rowbottom said:

“Enhancing the diversity of our sport is crucial for its future success. By being more inclusive and reaching new audiences we can tackle the challenge of declining participation within squash, and we can make better business decisions through diversity of thought and experience.

“Our DIAP sets out our commitment to enhancing diversity ensuring we develop a robust understanding of the issues our sport faces to ensure we developed appropriate and relevant interventions that will make a long-term sustained difference to the sport.

This will enable us to focus on developing our learning and building the foundations on which we can inform future strategy and create a longer term DIAP that is central to our future strategic direction.
