England squad announced for 2024 World Junior Championships

England Squash has announced a strong line-up for this year’s World Junior Squash Championships, taking place in Houston between 12-23 July.

Current European GU19 champion Amelie Haworth and British BU19 runner-up Abd-Allah Eissa will lead the charge as England look to capture silverware in the men’s and women’s individual and team events.

This year’s championships are set to be the biggest yet as over 250 players compete across the individual events for the men’s and women’s draws and, for the first time in World Juniors history, concurrent men’s and women’s team events.

Joining the in-form Haworth in the women’s squad is three-time English Junior champion and 2023 British Junior silver medallist Mariam Eissa, reigning British GU17 champion Emily Coulcher-Porter, and Pontefract Gold winner Olivia Owens.

Meanwhile, current British BU17 champion Dylan Roberts, Sussex Silver winner Yusuf Sheikh and 2023 British Junior bronze medallist Bailey Malik will feature alongside Abd-Allah Eissa in the men’s line-up.

Three-time national champion Alex Broadbridge and Ipswich Silver winner Meha Shah have also been named as reserves for the event.

The squad will be hoping to build on last year’s bronze medal in the women’s team event and secure their first men’s team title since 2022.

Commenting on the squad, England Development Head Coach Tim Vail, said:

“We’re looking forward to taking this exciting group of players over to Texas. They’ve been in excellent form this season and fully deserve this opportunity to represent their country on the biggest stage.”

Lucy Townley, England Squash’s Junior Talent Pathway Manager, said:

“The World Junior Championships represent the pinnacle of junior squash, so we’re excited to see how the squad fares over in Houston.

“The players have been working incredibly hard towards this moment throughout their careers to date, so to be selected is an achievement they should all be proud of. Although there will be some stern tests against some difficult opponents, we fully believe in the talent of the squad and are looking forward to the tournament.”
