2021 British National Squash Championships to be staged on 3-6 August
England Squash have announced that the 2021 British National Squash Championships will be staged between 3-6 August at Manchester's National Squash Centre and will be delivered by Squash Media & Marketing - the Professional Squash Association's (PSA) newly created commercial entity - which will take over the event management, marketing, promotion and broadcast of the championships.
Due to the close proximity to other major events as well as England Squash's desire to support players competing in PSA Challenger Tour events, the championships will host a capped 16 player draw in both the men’s and women’s divisions with no qualifiers. The draws will comprise of 15 of the highest ranked British players and one wildcard entry. Whilst the championships will not run in their traditional format this year, England Squash are thrilled that the event will go ahead following a challenging 18 months for the game.
England No.1s Sarah Jane-Perry and James Willstrop are the defending champions after they defeated Jasmine Hutton and Welshman Joel Makin, respectively, in Nottingham in February, 2020.
“The British National Squash Championships is the flagship event on the England Squash calendar and we’re excited to be hosting a star-studded line-up again later this year," said England Squash Commercial Manager Paul Walters. “The British Nationals has been home to some great matches in the past and we’re confident that this year’s event will be equally exciting. We look forward to working with Squash Media & Marketing in the coming months to ensure a successful delivery of the championships.”
PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough said, “We already have a strong relationship with England Squash and look forward to expanding our long-term collaboration with them through the staging of the British National Squash Championships.
“We are looking to work even closer with key stakeholders to jointly develop the sport including the events that sit outside the PSA Tour. The British Nationals have a great history and we are excited that Squash Media & Marketing will be an integral part of this event moving forward.”
The British National Squash Championships will be shown live on SQUASHTV and the Facebook pages of the PSA and England Squash.
