The national junior rankings have been updated with a new policy from September 2017. The main principles remain the same, with rankings lists produced for Boys and Girls Under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19. Points are calculated by taking an average of a player's best seven (six for U19) eligible results from the preceding 12 months. The changes that have been made aim to create a level playing field for junior players to flourish. These include updates to the points structure (all age categories now attract the same number of points) and some of the tournaments which attract ranking points have changed. Full details of the junior ranking policy are available on the rankings homepage.
-
Players may play in a higher age category at the request of the tournament organiser (for copper/bronze events) or the England Squash Performance Department (silver/gold/platinum events). In these cases, up to two results from a higher age category may count towards a player's ranking. Points can only be transferred to the age category immediately above or below the age category played.
Players move age category as soon as they celebrate their relevant birthday. When the player's first result in the new age category has been received (which can be whilst still in the lower age category), they will appear on the ranking list for the new age category.
-
Since the tournaments which carry ranking points have changed (you can see details of the changes on our support site) to enable more consistent opportunities for players to earn points, some players who only had results from tournaments which no longer carry ranking points will not show on the ranking lists.
Players who have recently moved into a new age category may also disappear for a short time, until they have played their first tournament in the new age category. As soon as this result is received, the player will appear on the ranking list for the new age category, along with up to four results from the lower age category (at 50% of their original value).
-
Under the new rules, where points are carried up from a lower age category they are transferred to the higher age category at 50% of their original value. This usually occurs when players ‘age up' into a new age category, when they can carry up to four results from their lower age category into their new age category. Where this occurs, the original points earned are shown on a player's tournament details in brackets alongside the converted points counted in the new age category.

If you have a question about the new rankings, we'd like to invite you to have look at the full details of the new policy which is available on our junior pathway changes page, and you can also find some more FAQs on our support site at support.englandsquash.com. If you still can't find the answer, you can get in touch using our ranking query form available via the ‘Ranking Queries' button on the rankings homepage.
