Team South triumphant in 2024 Battle of the Border

England South claimed the bragging rights in this year’s Battle of the Border after defeating the North side by 129 points to 109 to secure the title for the first time in two years.

The event – which took place last Sunday – saw 32 of the country’s top U11 and U13 players descend on Edgbaston Priory Club, with squash played for six hours across six different courts to determine the winners.

England North came into the event looking to retain the trophy after earning a comfortable 160-90 victory twelve months ago, while South’s last triumph came in 2022.

A thrilling day of action saw over 64 matches played, and despite trailing at lunch, the South fought back to edge the contest by 20 points and secure the 2024 title.

Commenting on the event, Tournament Organiser Andy Longman said:

“Congratulations to England South on winning this year’s Battle of the Border. It was a really competitive day of squash with the standard of play rising again this year.

“Thanks to all players and coaches for making the event so enjoyable, and a huge thank you to Edgbaston Priory for hosting us!”

England Squash’s Junior Talent Pathway Manager, Lucy Townley said:

“The Battle of the Border is a fun, competitive event that brings our best under 13 and under 11 players together in a team environment and provides an early insight into what England representation is all about. The level of squash displayed was of an excellent standard and it is always great to see the amount of passion that these young players have for the game.

“It’s clear that the future of English junior squash is very bright, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the players progress next season and beyond.”
