England coach Crawford selects squads for 2024 WSF World Team Championships

England Squash's new National Coach Stuart Crawford has named his squads for the first ever combined WSF Men's and Women's World Team Championships in Hong Kong from 9-15 December 2024.

The men's squad is headed by former world champion and current world no.6, Mohamed ElShorbagy, who is joined by his younger brother Marwan, the world no.10. There are also first World Team call-ups for world no.36 Nathan Lake and 25-year-old Curtis Malik, world ranked 37.

Commonwealth Games singles gold medallist Georgina Kennedy is named in England's women's squad, along with highly experienced world no.18 Sarah Jane Perry, former British national champion Jasmine Hutton and world no.24 Lucy Turmel.

"I'm very excited about my first World Team Championships in my new role as England National Coach," said Crawford.

"As it's the first ever combined event for men and women, I think there will be an extra level of energy and excitement, similar to what we see at the European Championships every year.

"England has a rich history at this event and I'm confident the teams we've selected are capable of challenging for both titles. Egypt will obviously be the team to beat in both events but all of our players have shown they can compete with the world's best, so I'm looking forward to seeing them do just that for their country."

Mohamed ElShorbagy, who captained England's men to victory at the European Team Championships in Uster, Switzerland in May, said:

"I can’t wait to head to Hong Kong for my second World Team Championships and put on the England t-shirt again. I've always had a great time representing England and I really hope myself and the team get the best result possible."

Kennedy, the world No.7 and reigning British National champion, added:

"I can't wait to travel to Hong Kong and experience the first ever combined World Team Championships. Unfortunately, I was injured two years ago in Cairo, so this is going to be my first time playing for England at a World Team Championship. I can't wait to see how far we can go."

England have an illustrious history at the World Teams, winning the men's title in 2013 and reaching every final since 2011. The women's team were world champions as recently as 2014 and reached every final this century until 2022 when they lost in the semi-finals to the USA.

The format in Hong Kong will be pool stages for the opening three days, with the top two teams in each pool progressing to the knockout stage.
